Call us, we spec it to the room

Guide figures only. We arrive earlier in Winchester than in Southampton because barn and marquee load-ins take longer, and because a sound limiter has to be set up against rather than fought with. Final spec is confirmed on the call.

Sound for a city that takes its quiet seriously

We cover Winchester city centre, Weeke, Fulflood, Stanmore, Badger Farm, Highcliffe and St Cross, along with the villages ringing the city: Kings Worthy, Littleton, Sparsholt, Twyford, Colden Common and Otterbourne.

Winchester is a different job from Southampton, and pretending otherwise is how suppliers get caught out. A lot of the best rooms here are in listed buildings inside a conservation area, which means no fixings, no rigging points and a caretaker who is quite rightly watching where you put your stands. The hotel function rooms and the marquee sites almost all have sound limiters fitted, and the countryside venues are close enough to somebody's house that the curfew is real rather than nominal.

So we plan for it. We ask what the limiter is set to before the day and build the system to sit under it, which is the difference between a full evening and a first dance that cuts out. We bring a rig scaled to the room rather than the biggest one in the van, because a smaller system running comfortably sounds better and trips nothing. And we arrive two hours before doors instead of ninety minutes, because a barn with a gravel approach and a single side door takes longer than a hotel with a loading bay.

The upside of all this is that Winchester rooms are genuinely lovely to work in. A stone barn or a memorial hall with a proper stage will make a modest system sound expensive, as long as somebody has thought about where the speakers go.

Rooms we work in around Winchester

  • Village and memorial halls in the surrounding villages, most with a stage and a kitchen
  • Barns and converted farm buildings, where the acoustics do half the work if the rig is placed right
  • Country house grounds and marquees, including cable runs and power planning
  • Hotel function rooms, usually with a limiter on the wall that we set up against
  • Church halls and parish rooms for services, socials and christenings
  • Listed buildings where nothing gets fixed to a wall and everything stands free

The Winchester questions

Our Winchester venue has a sound limiter. Can you still work with it?

Yes, and it's worth telling us early. A limiter cuts the power to the stage if the level goes over a set threshold, which is how a first dance ends in silence. We set the system up against the limiter during the sound check so it never trips mid-song. Ask your venue what the limit is set to and pass the number on.

Can you cover a marquee in the grounds with no power nearby?

Usually yes. Tell us how far the marquee is from the nearest socket and whether there's a generator, and we'll plan the cable runs before the day rather than working it out on the grass. If the supply won't carry a full rig we'll say so and suggest what fits.

Do you travel out to the villages around Winchester?

Yes. Kings Worthy, Littleton, Sparsholt, Twyford, Colden Common, Otterbourne and the surrounding villages are all inside our normal range, and their memorial and village halls are some of the nicest rooms we work in.

Event in Winchester?

Tell us the venue, the date and roughly how many people. If the venue has a limiter, tell us that too and we'll plan around it.
